Interview with the Cactus Cuties

I had the opportunity to interview America’s Singing Sensation the Cactus Cuties. These four gifted singers are based out of Lubbock, Texas. They have performed for the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, Disney’s Cory in the House, and even for President George Bush.

How did the Cactus Cuties start?

Madeline: Cami (the founder/directer) decided to put together the group and at one point there were 21 girls! Over the years, they narrowed it down to just four.

Andi: We had taken voice together, so when Cami decided to create a group the name came out of a theater called the Cactus Theater.

Do any of you go to public school?

Blaire: I go to a public middle school

Baylee: I go to high school

Andi: Madeline and I go to private schools.

Do you travel a lot?

Yes! We travel a lot and it’s like one big sleepover!

I heard you performed for the president. What was that like?

Baylee: It was so much fun! What an incredible opportunity. The White House was beautiful. We sang a 20 minute set (Dec. 2008) and it was so cool to see the White House decorated for Christmas! Everyone treated us perfectly.

Blaire: President Bush is from Texas which is where we are from, so that made it cool.

Have you had any scary moments while performing?

Andi: Yes! Singing at the White House was very nerve racking. At some of the big games we were nervous because there were echoes while we were singing.

Do you each have any personal goals?

Baylee: Whatever we do together we always remain the way we are and not the way the world wants us to be. We always show a light because God has blessed us so much.

Have any of you thought of moving into acting or do you want to stay singers?

Madeline: I would love to be an actress. A couple of years ago we were able to be on Cory in the House. The cast was so nice and it was so much fun!

I hear that Blaire has a talent for yodeling. Tell me a little bit about that!

Blaire: Cami asked me if I would like to learn how to yodel, so she gave me some songs to learn and I was able to yodel in about a week.

How long have you been singing?

Baylee: We have all pretty much been singing since we came out of the womb, but together we have been singing for six years. I started when I was 8.

Blaire: I started singing when I was six with Cami.

Andi: I started when I was six.

Madeline: I started when I had turned four. I’ve been singing for more than half of my life and it’s something I want to keep doing.

Where are you performing next?

Blaire: We are performing for a Cleveland Cavaliers game in Ohio (Feb. 8th vs. the Lakers at 3:30 pm. Check your local TV listing and try to catch it live!).
